Changing seasons
I write this as I listen to the tinkling wind chimes I've placed about my property, the moon shines autumnally, the breezes waft through the pines speaking softly to the night creatures, and the temperature steadily drops to around 40 degrees; it whispers quietly about the arrival of fall. Each morning, the rising sun finds the deer avidly grazing on any green leafy plants still remaining- a sure sign that the change of season arrived. Gone are the blooms, gone are the fawn spots as the babies begin their maturation into adolescent mule deer. Evident amongst last season's fawns are the protrusions of peeking antlers, establishing male presence out of infant ambiguity. I love the peaceful autumn nights in the pines- Welcome Fall.

My Bit O English in the Pines
I love the look of an English Cottage Garden- the olde-time perennials like roses, foxglove, hollyhocks, daisies- flowers that say, "Welcome, come sit amongst our fragrances and cool down with a glass of lemonade or julep!" At the beginning of the planting season I decided to create my Colorado Cottage Garden, and enjoyed many a refreshing glass of coolness amongst the fragrances of my dream-to-reality first year cottage garden.

Deer Oh Deer, It's That Time of Year.
Late summer- everything's in it's finest glory having had all summer to grow and bloom. That's the trouble- everything's in riotous, blooming glory and what better time for the deer to visit such a succulent salad bar temptation. I've noticed in the woods of Parker, Colorado, the end of August, beginning of September finds the deer beginning to "Beef Up," forgive the association my deers, for the coming winter! I fight a good fight all season, utilizing Deer Off, a bottled spray elixir that does repel the little darlings, but even lightly coated stems are not safe from bloom-be-heading deer this time of year. I'm going to try mixing another recipe I found to see the effectiveness against Deer Off and I'll let you know how it goes. If you have a great deer/rabbit repelling recipe, please feel free to post it for us.

I've been an avid, amateur gardener all my life, and a wonderful, highly cherished friend of mine, Charlotte, suggested I plant some of my garden interests out here in blog land to see what grows, buds and eventually blossoms. Please join me in creating a flower bed bursting with glorious gardening insight, tips, follies and foibles as we sow and reap some wonderful gardening adventures with each other.
